The question is too practical that it begs elucidation. The problem is there’s not standard out there that informs users just how often they should replace LPG hose fittings. Is it three months? Six months? Or a year even? Should you wait for any obvious damage to the hoses and tubing before you go to the hardware to buy new ones?

And then there are the different materials used by the manufacturers which could also impact on the schedule of replacement. Sometimes the manual will show the recommended schedule when you should change the fittings and hoses. Check your hoses and fittings regularly. Look for signs of wear and tear, holes or some brittleness. When you suspect a leak or damage, call a technician right away especially if you have no background repairing or replacing the hose since propane gas is highly flammable and you could be exposing yourself and your family to danger.

Soap is not just for washing

Although propane is odorless, an odorizer is added so inhabitants can smell if there’s a gas leak. But propane is heavier than air and has a tendency to settle on the floor and basement or enter gaps on floorboards so it’s not uncommon for inhabitants not to smell it. But one tip you can try is to conduct a soap bubble test on your gas hose fittings each month. The process is very simple. You just run a soapy sponge over the pipe, regulator and fittings and see if there are bubbles that will form out of the leaking air. If possible, use only copper or stainless steel for the piping. For flexible piping, they shouldn’t be used around very toxic gases.
